Alce Nero organic and Fairtrade light brown sugar comes from the most suitable areas of the island of Cuba. Sugar cane, known by the scientific name of saccharum officinarum, grows well in tropical climates, can exceed three meters in height and live up to 10 years. The crystals of this sugar have a crunchy texture. Territories Our light brown sugar comes from the most suitable lands on the island of Cuba. Cultivation and harvest Sugar cane is a perennial tropical plant that needs a humid and warm climate. The cultivation and sowing of sugar canes is done manually and, in compliance with the organic regulation, no synthetic chemical treatment is used and exclusively organic fertilizers are used for fertilization. Sugar canes are cut by hand only when ripe. Processing The cane is ground to form a thin panel of fibers which is then passed through a roller mill to extract the juice. The latter descends into large tanks and begins the heating process. The juice is then filtered, to separate it from other organic matter, and only then goes to the evaporation process. Subsequently, the thick juice is then dried, sieved and bagged.
