Pediapax Powder what it is for

Pediapox is a CE0426 class IIa disposable medical device. Useful for the treatment of constipation and fecaloma in pediatric age based on pure Macrogol 3350, without electrolytes and without flavors in divisible sachets of 13.125 g of powder for oral suspension.
Treatment of chronic constipation in children over 2 years of age and weighing more than 10 kg.
Treatment of fecal impaction in children from the age of 3, defined as refractory constipation with fecal load in the rectum and / or colon.

Each sachet contains: pure macrogol 3350.

How Pediapax Powder is taken

Chronic constipation:

  • 2- 6 years - half dose 6.563 g to be dissolved in half a glass of natural water at room temperature,
  • from 7 years onwards - full dose 1 sachet of 13.125 g to be dissolved in a glass of water.

Treatment of fecal impaction from 3 years of age:

  • A course of fecaloma treatment with pediapax up to 7 days:

By sachet we mean the whole sachet of 13.125 g (2 half sachets). The daily number of sachets should be taken divided into doses of 6.563 g (½ sachet) dissolved in 62.5 ml of water (about half a glass), all consumed within 12 hours.

The time interval between one intake is calculated based on the number of sachets to be taken in the 12 hours, therefore:

Note: It is possible to prepare a larger volume of ready-to-use solution, for example by dissolving 6 sachets in 750 ml of water. In this case, the solution can be kept covered in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, and then discarded.

Side effects with the use of Pediapax Powder

Gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain, borborygmas, diarrhea or loose stools), as well as nausea, mild vomiting, abdominal distension, flatulence, inflammation and perineal irritation may appear especially in the initial phase of use, effects which usually improve by reducing the dose. . Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been observed very rarely. Other symptoms of allergic reaction such as itching, hives and wheezing. If the side effects persist, suspend the treatment and contact your pediatrician for a consultation.

Correct storage of Pediapax Powder

Keep the package intact in a dry place and away from direct light or heat sources: remove and open the bags only just before using them. Store the device below 25 ° C.

Absolutely do not exceed the recommended doses: in case of overdose intense pains, abdominal distension may occur, induced diarrhea may also occur, with electrolyte disturbances caused by possible excessive evacuation. In case of suspected overdose contact your pediatrician immediately. When the product is used in high dosages to treat fecal impaction, it should be administered with caution in patients with impaired swallowing reflex, reflux oesophagitis or reduced levels of consciousness. In case you forget to take a dose do not take a double dose to catch up.

Contraindications and limitations of use for Pediapax Powder

Do not use under 2 years for the treatment of chronic constipation and under 3 years for the treatment of fecal impaction. The use of the device is not recommended in case of: intestinal perforation or obstruction due to structural or functional disorders of the intestinal wall, ileus, severe inflammatory pathologies of the intestinal tract, such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and megacolotoxic. Known hypersensitivity to PEG. Do not take the medical device while using other devices or oral medicinal specialties: the osmotic power of the PEG and the induced increase in gastrointestinal transit speed can negatively affect their effectiveness. In any case, consult your doctor before taking Pediapax in case of other therapies in progress. Do not use in case of known gastric or intestinal lesions.
