The oximeter or pulse oximeter is a portable and non-invasive device capable of measuring both the heart rate and the amount of oxygen contained in the blood; the latter is an important parameter to monitor in subjects affected by Covid 19.
To use it, simply use your finger, as it is rich in capillaries that acquires a PPG (Photoplethysmography) signal from which to extract information on blood oxygenation and cardiovascular activity.
How to read the values on the display?
Normal oxygenation values (reported as SpO2) range from 97% up for healthy subjects while for the elderly and / or people with other pathologies they could drop up to 94% and still be considered acceptable; if they drop by 4-5 percentage points, take action and contact your doctor.
It is important to always take the measurement in the same position, without gloves and possibly without nail polish
