Profore

Multilayer Compression Bandage System

Profore is a Multilayer Compression Bandage System developed to obtain sustained and graduated compression useful in the treatment of venous ulcers and related conditions.

Characteristics

Proven clinical efficacy, favorable cost / benefit ratio
Profore has extensive clinical documentation which evidences:

  • a cure rate of 79% in 12 weeks 1
  • a saving of 65% compared to the usual treatment regimens 2
  • a 59% reduction in the total time spent by health personnel in managing ulcers 3
Benefits

Sustained Compression: The ability to maintain effective compression levels for at least one week after application has been demonstrated.

Graduated Compression: Profore ensures a pressure of about 40 mmhg at the ankle decreasing to 17 mmhg at the knee 4.

Profore has sufficient absorption capacity to ensure control of exudate for up to one week without the need to change the bandage

Safety
Each layer of the bandage system has an optimal length to ensure correct application.

Profore has been used to treat approximately 1.8 million patients over the course of 5 years.

Safe and convenient
The Profore kit contains everything needed for the application of a safe and graduated compression therapy 1.
Using Profore means reducing preparation time, simplifying stock management and ensuring that the right components are always available.

Indications

Profore has been specifically designed to treat venous leg ulcers and associated complications.

Contraindications / Precautions for use

Should the patient experience a sensation of pain, cold or paraesthesia distal to the bandage, it must be removed immediately. It is important to carefully consider the size and shape of the limb, because the system does not protect vulnerable areas from excessive pressure in patients with very thin legs or prominent shin crests, unless an additional amount of Profore # 1 Absorbent Bandage is used.

The Multilayer Bandage System Kit should not be used on arteropathic patients (with an ankle / arm index less than 0.8) or on diabetic patients with advanced microangiopathy.

Warnings
Failing to diagnose reduced arterial flow can lead to pressure necrosis, limb amputation and ultimately death from the patient.
The risk that the patient has arterial as well as venous pathologies increases with age.
Some components of the system contain natural latex rubber which can cause allergic reactions in particularly sensitive individuals.

Caution
Before applying the first bandage it is important to proceed as follows:
1. Examine the patient carefully to rule out the presence of arterial diseases. The use of Doppler ultrasound is recommended.
2. If it does not reach 18 cm (padded).
3. Make sure that the circumference of the ankle does not change due to the absorption of the edema. Always remeasure the circumference after the initial treatment period.
4. Analyze the patient's limb for possible bony prominences or fibrous calf. Make sure these are well protected by using the padding Professor # 1

Instructions for Use
Before applying the wound contact dressing, cleanse the wound according to local protocol.

Apply Profore * in the following sequence:

1 - Profore WCL sterile layer in contact with the wound. Apply PROFORE WCL (sterile) in contact with the wound by pulling it out of the package using sterile forceps and hold it in place until covered with Profore # 1.
2 - Profore # 1 - Absorbent bandage Apply starting from the metatarsal heads up to the knee using a spiral technique with 50% overlap. The bandage should not be tight.
3 - Profore # 2- Cotton crepe bandage
Apply starting from the metatarsal heads up to the knee, overlapping the Profore # 1, with a spiral technique and overlapping of 50%. Use some plaster to fix it.
4 - Profore # 3 - Lightweight, highly elastic compression bandage
Apply starting from the metatarsal heads up to the knee with the «8» technique using a tension and an overlap of 50%. Refer to the yellow line as a guide for proper overlap. Secure the dressing with plaster.
5 - Profore # 4 - Flexible cohesive bandage
Apply starting from the metatarsal heads up to the knee; the bandage must be applied with a spiral technique, a tension and an overlap of 50%. Apply light pressure to make sure the bandage fits snugly against itself. Apply the bandage quickly to the foot to reduce any swelling of the material on the front of the ankle.
