SAMe is a substance physiologically present in the body and is an important donor of methyl groups. Methylation reactions are critically important in brain chemistry, as well as in numerous other metabolic processes
SAMe takes part in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as Serotonin, Norepinephrine and Dopamine (substances that carry information between the cells of the nervous system) and in the synthesis of phospholipids, such as phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. SAMe levels decrease with age and in particular situations.
