CULTIVATION AND PRODUCTION

In its various species (Aleppo pine, sylvan, larch, maritime, etc.), pine is present on a large scale in France, Germany, Austria, Poland, Russia and America, mainly used in carpentry, manufacturing of paper (cellulose pulp) and in the production of turpentine essence.

SCENT

Scots pine essential oil releases a subtle and fresh woody scent.

EXTRACTION AND PERFORMANCE

The essential oil of Scots pine is obtained by distilling the needles by a current of water vapor. The yield varies according to the altitude, exposure and age of the tree, from 0.1% to 0.2% that is 100-200 grams per 100 kg of plant.

CHEMICAL FORMULA

The main active components of Scots pine essential oil are monoterpenes (alpha and beta-pinenes, camphene, delta-3-carene, limonene, myrcene), terpene esters (bornyl acetate) and sesquiterpenes.

MAIN INDICATIONS

Scots pine essential oil is a powerful respiratory antiseptic, active against bronchitis. Invigorating and stimulating, it is decongestant (lymphatic system and utero-ovarian sphere) and cortison-like (exerts an action similar to that of cortisone).

APPARENT SPECIES

Mountain pine (Pinus pumilionis), turpentine pine (Pinus pinaster).
