Scar and scarring

The scar is a sign that remains on the skin following a healed wound, it is the healing tissue that forms on wounds or lesions at the end of the healing process.

Scarring is a complex repair process during which the body stops bleeding, heals and closes the wound. It occurs in three stages that lead to skin re-epithelialization: hemostasis, inflammation and repair.

Scarring is a natural process; however, our bodies are not always able to fully restore healthy tissue. Often, the scar connective tissue formed by fibroblasts and collagen does not have good blood circulation, has irregular shapes, is not very elastic (lower elastin content) and has a different color than the healthy tissue it has replaced.
