Gel for the treatment and prevention of onychomycosis with keratolytic action based on Urea, Salicylic acid, Piroctone olamine and Climbazole.
Composition
Urea
Urea has keratolytic properties, as it promotes the detachment of superficial dead cells and consequently skin regeneration.
It can be used with variable dosages between 3% and 40%. At concentrations below 10% it is mainly used in cosmetic products with a moisturizing action; with a concentration of around 20% it is used as a keratolytic, while at dosages above 40% it helps to remove calluses on hands and feet.
Salicylic acid
Active ingredient with high keratolytic activity, as it is able to selectively break the keratin protein chain, abundantly present in corneocytes. At the cutaneous level, salicylic acid decreases the cohesive forces of the corneocytes. In this way the desquamation of hyperpigmented keratinocytes is favored, at the same time stimulating cell renewal. The final effect promoted by salicylic acid is surprising: the “new” keratinocytes, being less rich in melanic pigment, give the skin a uniform, smooth and luminous appearance. It is also used for its bacteriostatic and soothing properties. In fact, it quickly penetrates into inflamed lesions by exercising these functions, without causing obvious irritation phenomena.
Piroctone olamine
It carries out, even at low concentrations, an important local antiseptic action. Equipped with great affinity for tissues rich in keratin, it completes the anti-inflammatory action of other active ingredients. The antimicrobial activity is due to its high affinity for trivalent metal cations, with consequent inhibition of the metal-dependent enzymes, responsible
the degradation of peroxides within the fungal cell.
Climbazole
It has an important local antifungal action, with a broad spectrum of action. The antifungal action is due to the inhibition of ergosterol synthesis, of which the plasma fungal membranes are rich, based on the non-conversion of lanosterol into ergosterol.
