Composition

Extracts from Capsicum

They are obtained from the Capsicum frutescens plant which produces green berries rich in seeds, whose ripe fruits are commonly called chillies. Ripe chilli is particularly rich in ascorbic acid, carotenoids, niacin (or vitamin PP) and some mineral salts (K, Ca, P). It contains a substance with interesting phytotherapeutic activities, capsaicin, known for its rubefacient, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Together with the rubefacinete effect, which is expressed with an increase in local vasodilation, capsaicin also has a first painful effect (due to burning) and then an analgesic effect. Once applied, capsaicin induces the release of pain neurotransmitters from local nerve endings causing the typical burning. After a few applications this sensation vanishes as the nerves lose sensitivity towards the substance, resulting in a reduced perception of pain. The analgesic action of capsaicin is therefore due to its ability to interfere with the sensory nerves of the skin in the transmission of the painful stimulus.

Methyl Nicotinate

It is the methyl ester of nicotinic acid, mainly used topically for the treatment of vascular disorders and osteo-articular inflammation. It exerts a rubefacient action that is carried out through the recall of blood in the microcirculation of the most superficial layers of the skin, with an increase in vascularization and development of heat on the treated part, thus relieving inflammation in the underlying layers thanks to the subtraction of blood. Due to its decontracting action, it favors the resolution of contracture and muscle stiffness and due to its peripheral vasodilating action, it facilitates, through the increase of local vascularization, the transcutaneous penetration of the other substances present in the cream.

Methyl salicylate

It is the methyl ester of acetyl salicylic acid which is mainly obtained from the leaves and bark of Gaultheria procumbens, birches and poplars. It belongs to the category of topical analgesics and is usually used for the symptomatic treatment of painful joint and muscle manifestations due to its antirheumatic activity. In fact, it blocks the synthesis of PGE2 by interference with the prostaglandin synthetase enzyme.

Glycyrrhetic acid

It is a pentacyclic triterpene acid that is obtained from the licorice plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra. It has a complex structure that includes a fraction with cortison-like activity but without the side effects and risks associated with the use of cortisones. Glycyrrhetic acid exerts an anti-inflammatory action both by indirectly enhancing endogenous corticosteroids, by slowing down their catabolism, and by inhibiting the production of free oxygen radicals, powerful phlogogenic agents, by neutrophilic granulocytes. It also has a protective action on the skin and an anti-allergic action by inhibiting the release of histamine, leukotrienes, PGE2 and bradykinin.

Extracts from Harpagophytum procumbens (Devil's Claw)

It is a plant rich in iridoid substances, that is monoterpenes generally existing in the form of glycosides, whose main constituent is represented by harpagoside. It possesses a high anti-inflammatory and analgesic action which is expressed through the inhibition of the synthesis of PGE2 and Nitric Oxide (NO), therefore it is well indicated for all painful arthro-rheumatic forms.

Allantoin

It is a purine derivative (formula C4H6N4O3) final product of the oxidation of uric acid, catalyzed by the enzymes urate-oxidase and 5-hydroxyurate hydrolase. Allantoin occurs naturally in the Symphytum officinale L. plant, but the synthetic one is usually used, above all for its moisturizing, soothing, restorative and anti-irritating activity. The moisturizing and soothing action is expressed through a modification of the characteristics of the skin barrier, increasing the ability of the corneocytes to imprison water and reducing the loss of water transepidermally. The exfoliating and re-epithelizing action is carried out thanks to its keratolytic activity, loosening the intracellular connections between the corneocytes.
