Veterinary Diet Dry Food
HEPATIC HF 16 is a simple dietetic food for dogs that supports the functioning of the liver in case of chronic liver failure. The key points of the dietary treatment of liver diseases:
avoid dietary deficiencies (high caloric intake, optimal intake of proteins, minerals and vitamins)
regulate the production of liver cells (highly digestible proteins, l-carnitine)
minimize liver dysfunction (optimal content of highly digestible proteins, vegetable protein sources, acidification of intestinal pH, reduced sodium content).
Indicated in case of:
- liver disease
- portosystemic shunt
- hepatic encephalopathy
- piroplasmosis
Contraindicated in case of:
- hyperlipidemia
- pregnant or lactating females - puppies
Product specific features:
Vegetable proteins: highly digestible vegetable proteins (soy protein isolate) are very well tolerated by dogs suffering from hepatic encephalopathy and help to counteract hyperammonaemia.
Low copper content: Low copper content and high zinc content reduce copper accumulation in hepatocytes and prevent liver cell degeneration.
Antioxidant complex: The synergistic complex of antioxidants (vitamin E, vitamin C, taurine, lutein) protects cells from attacks by aggressive metabolic products.
High caloric intake: the energy obtained from fats combined with a moderately reduced content of quality proteins reduces the breakdown of proteins thus decreasing the risk and / or progress of a hepatic encephalopathy.
Duration of treatment:
the duration of treatment varies according to the severity of the symptoms and the regenerative capacity of the liver. Lifetime intake may be needed in case of chronic liver disease. To reduce the postprandial hepatic burden, a division of the daily food into several small meals is recommended.
Further information:
L-carnitine supports the lipid metabolism of the liver and can help cover the high energy needs of the liver.
