Saffron (Crocus Sativus) is a plant of the iridaceae family. The spice called saffron, used in many medicinal preparations, is obtained from its trifid stigma. Its functional active ingredients are attributable to a pool of substances such as picrocrocin, safranal, crocin and crocetin, all molecules involved in mood regulation.
