Active principles
Salicin : active ingredient extracted from the white willow bark in 1825, salicin is a glycoside made up of two molecules, one of which is sugary.

Curiosity
The therapeutic virtues of white willow (Salix alba) have been known since ancient times.
Widespread antirheumatic and febrifuge remedy, the first document of its use can be found in the Ebers Papyrus, written over 3500 years ago.
From the bark of the white willow (in particular that of the young 2-3 year old branches) it contains salicylates, precursors of salicylic acid. The plasma concentration of salicylates remains constant for many hours, showing a longer lasting effect than synthetic salicylic acid.
Salicin is the starting material of the famous Aspirin which, it is known, is used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, in particular for colds and joint pains.
Particularly not of secondary importance, salicin is not gastrically damaged.
Salicin can be used in the symptomatic treatment of painful joint and muscle manifestations, in feverish states, in colds in general and as a pain reliever in case of headache, dental and menstrual pain.
