Carpinus Betulus
Glycerine Macerate
WHITE CARPINO
Family: Corylaceae
Species: Carpinus betulus L.
Habitat: Soils rich in humus up to the foothills
Part used: gems.
Harvest period: In spring.
Tree up to 25 meters tall with elliptical serrated leaves of finely serrated obovate-lanceolate shape much longer than wide compared to other Carpinus species. The fruits are said
"Nucule" and are inserted in a trilobed bract with a much longer central lobe. These characteristics differentiate the hornbeam from the black one with which it often shares the same
habitat.
Curiosity
Carpinus apparently derives from the Celtic as unioner between Car = wood and Pen = head / extremity, it is believed that the hornbeam wood was used for the yokes of oxen.
Internal use (Bud extract of gems)
The hornbeam buds have healing and anti-haemorrhagic, antispasmodic properties of the respiratory tract and antitussive properties.
Indications : Changes in the bleeding period, hypoplateletmia, sinusitis, cough and pharyngitis.
Dosage : 30 drops in a little water three times a day between meals.
