For who ?

VIH® self-test is for people who want to know their HIV status.

With 3695 new HIV infections (1) registered in Italy in 2014, the risk of transmission remains real.

Some groups of people are at greater risk of exposure to the virus, because they live in regions with a high prevalence or carry out practices that expose them to the risk of contagion. These people are recommended to get tested regularly (2).

(1) HIV / AIDS surveillance in Europe, Surveillance Report, ECDC & WHO, 2014.

(2) Document «Autotests de dépistage de infection par le VIH», Haute Autorité de Santé. March 2015.

Because ?

There is currently no vaccine that can prevent HIV infection. However, treatments are available for infected individuals that substantially reduce the risk of transmission.

VIH® autotest can serve as a complement to conventional diagnostic services (1).

autotest VIH® has been developed to offer a practical and confidential method to check your HIV status after a possible exposure to the virus that occurred more than three months previously.

In the event of a positive result, the test enables the person to contact the doctor and start treatment after having performed a confirmatory laboratory test. If treatment for HIV infection is initiated promptly, the life expectancy of those affected is similar to that of the rest of the population. Indeed, the mortality of HIV-infected men treated with antiretroviral therapy for more than three years is comparable to that of the general population (3).

If the result is negative, it means that the person is likely not infected and their HIV status is of no concern, provided the most recent risk of exposure is at least three months earlier.
