WHAT ARE SILVERIN® SILVER NITRATE CAUSTIC PENCILS AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?

In small concentrations, silver nitrate has a bactericidal effect; in large concentrations, it has a corrosive effect by creating crusts. Potassium nitrate is the diluent for the silver nitrate reaction to take place mildly. The mixture is placed on a pencil, like the head of a match, and can only be used once after it has been moistened. This medical product allows use in specific areas so that the effect is limited to specific points in a precise manner.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATION

For the treatment of warts, umbilical cord leftovers, skin growths, umbilical granuloma, treatment of wounds, aphthous stomatitis, for the arrest of superficial bleeding and epistaxis (nosebleeds).

WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK AT BEFORE USING SILVERIN® SILVER NITRATE CAUSTIC PENCILS?

You cannot use silver nitrate pencils if you are allergic to silver nitrate or potassium nitrate. A change in color of the treated area could last up to 24 hours.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

Pencils should only be used under medical supervision to treat any type of skin change that has uncommon pigmentation or shape changes and is not clearly recognizable as "granulation tissue" or a simple wart.
Do not touch the head (corrosive substance) of the silver nitrate pencil with wet hands.
Protect clothing and other items when handling with the pencil.
Silver nitrate causes black and brown spots that cannot be removed with regular detergents.
Carefully wash the healthy skin that has accidentally come into contact with the pencil head with water and a sponge; nevertheless, these spots on the skin may suffer a harmless pigmentation change by becoming darker. This pigmentation change disappears after about 10-14 days.
Should the pencil come into contact with the eye, rinse the eye immediately under running water with the eyelids open for at least 5 minutes continuously and then seek medical attention.
In a case of application in the mouth area, it is imperative to ensure that no parts of the head are swallowed.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DRUGS

There are no known interactions with other drugs.

MANAGEMENT AND BREASTFEEDING PERIOD

Contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medical product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you think you may be pregnant or plan to have a baby in the near future.

DRIVING SKILLS

The use of SILVERIN® silver nitrate pencils does not affect the driving ability.

HOW SHOULD YOU USE SILVERIN® SILVER NITRATE CAUSTIC PENCILS?

Use this medical product always strictly following the instructions in the package leaflet. If in doubt, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF USE

Only treat small areas of skin at a time.

TYPE OF USE

For cutaneous use. Prepare a clean and resistant surface. Wash the spot that will be treated. Moisten the heads of the pencils by briefly placing them under drops of water. The color of the head changes and becomes white or light gray; now it can be used. Clean or apply the head repeatedly in a precise and homogeneous way on the point being treated. The treated point changes color in a short time and becomes black; over the course of a few days this point will be rejected by the surrounding tissue. Repeat the treatment every 2-3 days until the desired purpose is achieved. The pencils were made for one-time use.

IN CASE OF OVERDOSE SILVERIN® CAUSTIC SILVER NITRATE PENCILS

Frequent use (without waiting for changes) can cause irritability or inflammatory reactions in the areas around the treated spot. If so, consult your doctor before continuing to use the product.

WHAT SIDE EFFECTS MAY APPEAR?

Hypersensitivity reactions or local irritability of the skin may appear, such as tingling, redness, blisters and light burning. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Contact your doctor or pharmacist even if you notice the appearance of side effects not described in this package leaflet.

HOW SHOULD YOU STORE SILVERIN® CAUSTIC SILVER NITRATE PENCILS?

We encourage you to keep them in the original package to protect the contents from light. Store the package in a dry place. Once opened, close the package properly until next use. Keep this medical product out of reach of children. You cannot use this product after the expiration date. The expiration date can be found on the back of the package. Do not dispose of this product with household waste. Contact your pharmacist to inquire about how to dispose of this product after you no longer use it. In this way you can contribute to the protection of the environment.

The package contains 10 rigid beech wood pencils 115 mm long with a round head impregnated with the active ingredient of 50% silver nitrate and 50% potassium nitrate.
