Sofargen what it is for
Aqueous topical dressing containing Silver Sulfadiazine. The gel with a high water content (over 95%), keeps the lesion hydrated by promoting the tissue repair process, creates a barrier to external agents protecting the damaged skin thanks to the presence of silver. It also promotes debridement in necrotic lesions.
The presence of Silver Sulfadiazine, a metallorganic compound obtained by reacting silver nitrate with Sulfadiazine, prevents microbial contamination of the dressing and keeps the wound environment free from other exogenous bacteria.
The particular formulation of Sofargen Gel creates an environment that facilitates the natural healing process and provides an effective barrier to microbial penetration. The product remains easily "in situ" and is not affected by the stretching of the wound edges. It can be easily removed by cleaning the lesion with saline.
Sofargen composition
Purified Water, Glycerol, Carbopol 974P, Sodium Hydroxide, Micronized Silver Sulfadiazine.
Indications on the use of Sofargen Gel
Sofargen Gel is indicated for the local treatment of skin lesions such as: abrasions, grazes, cuts, wounds, skin irritations and dermatological affections in general. It can be used as a moisturizer to keep the wound bed moist and prevent infections or as a cleanser to remove non-viable fragments and accumulations of fibrin.
Dose and method of use of Sofargen
After proper cleansing of the lesion, apply a uniform layer of 2 or 3 mm thick Sofargen Gel to the affected surfaces.
The Gel can be applied either directly on the lesions, or previously spread on a sterile gauze to obtain the moisturizing effect or on a polyurethane or semi-occlusive dressing as a cleanser. Sofargen Gel is also a valid substitute for the more commonly used hydrogels.
The application of the gel must continue without interruption once or twice a day, as long as there is the possibility of infection and until complete healing, both in spontaneous and surgical repairs. At each renewal of the application, thoroughly cleanse the lesions with water or physiological solution.
Precautions for using Sofargen Gel
Patients with known individual hypersensitivity to the components should not use Sofargen Gel.
It is recommended not to use the product for more than 4 weeks. Consult your doctor in case of incomplete healing or if unwanted symptoms arise. In case of accidental ingestion consult a doctor.
Warnings before use
The gel may tend to become brown in color if left exposed to light due to the silver ion present in the formulation. However this phenomenon does not compromise its efficacy and safety.
