WaterJel R1 R2
Weekly Treatment
The R1 Cooling Gel represents the first phase of the R1 & R2 treatment. The Gel cools, relieves pain, hydrates and stabilizes the skin's temperature through physical properties. R1 hydrates the skin instantly upon application. R1 includes LACTOKINE® in its formula. Together with other lactose proteins, LACTOKINE® contains milk factors that help the skin maintain a regular and consistent structure. R1 is applied at the end of the radiotherapy session. In case it is not possible to apply it in the hospital, it is recommended to do it when the patient arrives home. An abundant layer of R1 should be applied to the irradiated area, without rubbing, and left in contact with the treated area for at least 20 minutes.

R1 and R2 is a new two-step program that protects, preserves, strengthens and repairs the skin. The device provides real relief during radiotherapy treatments. Skin toxicity is one of the side effects of radiotherapy that can influence the patient's therapeutic program and can modify their quality of life. The skin's reaction to ionizing radiation varies depending on the volume irradiated, the dose administered, the treatment guidelines and the radio-sensitivity of the exposed tissue. Side effects can vary and include erythema, pigmentation, hair loss, atrophy, fibrosis, dryness and peeling of the skin, edema and ulceration. The acute inflammatory reaction caused by the destruction of cells in the basal layer of the epidermis, and by skin exposure, manifests itself as erythema and can gradually degenerate into exudative dermatitis.
Why have R1 and R2 been developed?
WaterJel Technologies, the company that developed and manufactures R1 and R2, is a world leader in burn treatment. R1 and R2 are solutions to the problem of treating side effects on the skin during and after radiotherapy treatment. The innovative treatment consists of cooling the damaged area in two stages, reducing the inflammatory response, relieving pain, hydrating and protecting the skin in the short and long term, and includes protection against UVA and UVB rays. The gel contains LACTOKINE® in its formula, which strengthens the ability of cells to resist stress.
Results from one of our many completed clinical evaluations This evaluation was performed on two patient groups. The first group received treatment in the head and neck, the second group in the pelvic area. Before applying R1 and R2, all patients had already undergone some radiotherapy sessions. In the first group, most of the patients reported pain and significant damage was observed on their skin. The second group suffered pain in the irradiated area due to epithelial damage. When both groups started treatment with R1 and R2, a significant improvement was observed in all of them. Once R1 was applied, patients experienced a slight itchy sensation in the most irritated parts of the tissue, then began to feel a pleasant cooling effect and substantial pain relief. Subsequently, after the application of the soothing lotion R2, the sensation of pain relief continued. When they noticed that the skin had become dry and tight again, they applied R2. In both groups the skin began to regenerate. All patients were able to complete their radiotherapy treatment without interruption
