Folic acid contributes to the growth of maternal tissues in pregnancy and supports normal hematopoiesis, iron promotes the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, vitamin B1 contributes to normal energy metabolism, while vitamins B2, B6 and B12 contribute to normal formation of red blood cells. The supplementary intake of folic acid increases the state of maternal folate. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor for developing neural tube defects in the fetus. The target population is made up of women of childbearing age and the beneficial effect is obtained with a supplementary daily intake of folic acid of 400 g for at least one month before and up to three months after conception. Maternal supply of DHA contributes to normal brain development and vision of the fetus and breastfed children.
