Burdock has diaphoretic, diuretic, purifying, cleansing, liver function stimulants and healing properties. This plant can be useful as an adjuvant in dermatitis, biliary stasis, hyperglycemia, pancreatic insufficiency, hyperazotemia, urethritis, acne and hemorrhoids. Rhubarb has eupeptic, digestive, cholagogue, stomachic properties. It is useful in liver diseases because it is able to evacuate bile. The Fumaria contains tannins, sugars, alkaloids (the fumarin) and fumaric acid. It has aperitif, tonic, purifying, cholagogue, diuretic properties; it is useful as an adjuvant in psoriasis, dermatitis, allergic dermatosis, eczema, acne, pancreatic and renal insufficiency and cardio-renal edema. The bitter fraction contained in the Horehound is responsible for the digestive and choleretic virtues. The main components of the Artichoke are: favonoids, including cynaroside, responsible for the protective activity against the liver parenchyma, phenolic acids whose metabolites act on the tissues favoring diuresis and the elimination of metabolic waste, tannins and inulin a sugar easily burned by our body and therefore useful for diabetics. It has diuretic, aperitif, digestive, tonic, eupeptic, blood purifying properties, it is a hepatic tonic. It can be useful as an adjuvant in liver failure, jaundice, liver cirrhosis, gallstones, gout, rheumatism, hypercholesterolemia and water retention. The active ingredients contained in Pilosella are: favonoids, tannins, coumarins, polyphenolic acids, sesquiterpenes and manganese. The favonoids perform the action of promoting diuresis both quantitatively and qualitatively by increasing the elimination of chlorides and nitrogenous substances. The saponins contained in Sarsaparilla are responsible for the strong diuretic, azide and hypoazotemic action that the plant manifests. The plant has a therapeutic mechanism of action with a double point of attack: the first indirectly on the urea and nucleic metabolism, through an action at the level of the liver; the second on the mechanism of renal secretion, through a functional increase in the powers of concentration of this organ. Sarsaparilla has given good results in the treatment of psoriasis, because it promotes the elimination of cholesterol. The Cassia “tracta per cristeri”, according to Calestani 1575, p.145 is the “purge for anger and the femma, which purifies the blood, extinguishes the in fammations”. Main components are the sennosides metabolized in the colon by the bacterial hole in rhein and reinantrone (laxatives), mucilage, bitter substances. Fennel relieves cramps and promotes expectoration. Essential oils and favonoids have a spasmolytic, anti-inflammatory and diuretic effect.
