Cantharis
Homeopathic medicine
Cantharis is a remedy with local action that acts mainly on the urinary tract, but also on the gonads, on the gastro-intestinal tract, on the nervous system, on the skin, on the mucous membranes and on the serous membranes.
All secretions, liquid or viscous with possible blood traces, are abundant and excoriating.
The individual who requests Cantharis has brutal and violent sensations of burning and heat, has burning dermatitis (in Rhus tox the vesicles are less burning, more itchy, smaller, dark red, painful and aggravated by the cold), has pain in the abdomen unbearable, sharp (similar to stabs) and constricting that occur especially when the bladder is full, he has difficult, slow and painful urination, as well as frequent with the emission of a few drops of urine.
The burning pain and the intolerable urge to urinate are the guiding symptoms of Cantharis in all inflammatory conditions.
The subject has general hyperesthesia (increased skin sensitivity of a painful type, caused by abnormal nervous excitement), bright eyes and very dilated pupils, a pale face with an expression of suffering, thirst with aversion to drinking. He is a prostrate and tired person, depressed, restless and agitated (he is constantly moving) and has an increased sexual desire.
The heartburn does not improve either during or after urination. Skin symptoms improve with cold applications. Diarrhea gets worse after meals or after drinking. Abdominal pains improve by bending over and worsening with pressure (Colocynthis, on the other hand, improves with both bending over and pressure). Bladder pains are made worse by drinking even small amounts of water or drinking coffee.
The main (complementary) synergists are Belladonna, Mercurius, Phosphorus, Pulsatilla, Sepia, Sulfur.
The main antidotes are Aconitum (for the violence of pains), Apis (for cystitis), Camphora (for stranguria and oliguria), Kali nitricum (for kidney symptoms).
The incompatible is Coffea.
