Homeopathic medicine

Homeopathic remedies (or even homeopathic medicines or homeopathic products) are the medicines used in homeopathic treatments that act according to the law “SIMILIA SIMILIBUS CURANTUR”, called the Law of Similitude, which means that the like is treated by the like.

According to this law, a natural substance, which taken in large doses by a healthy individual causes a series of symptoms, is able, if properly diluted, i.e. taken in homeopathic (infinitesimal) doses, to cure those same symptoms in a sick individual.

This is why talking about the characteristics of the substance or those of the disease is the same thing and therefore homeopathic remedies must be chosen on the basis of the similarity between the effects they produce in the healthy individual and the symptoms that the sick individual manifests.

Individualization process

Within the symptom picture, it is necessary to take into account not only the physical symptoms but also the individual characteristics of the patient, consisting of the set of morphological, physiological (metabolic-functional) and psychological characteristics capable of influencing their reactivity.

The constitution will then be analyzed, which also includes the study of temperament which also includes somatic characteristics, character and diathesis, which represent the so-called ground of the individual.

The analysis of this terrain, which differs from person to person, assumes considerable clinical interest because it allows to obtain essential information on the characteristics of the patient and on his pathological predispositions, in order to prescribe the most suitable remedy, the remedy most "similar" to he. This will make it possible to implement both a therapy against the diseases in progress, removing the root causes, and a preventive one particularly targeted towards morbid predispositions. The basic concept, inspired by Hippocrates, is that homeopathy is the medicine of the sick rather than the disease.

Therefore, in the presence of any disease, it is necessary to analyze the individual as a whole and evaluate all aspects, not limiting oneself to the picture of physical symptoms (individualization process). It is this type of investigation and analysis that the homeopathic doctor must conduct in order to identify the most suitable homeopathic remedy for the individual affected by a specific pathology.

Characteristics of the homeopathic remedy

Each homeopathic remedy has its own characteristics that distinguish it from the others and make it exclusive. Here too these characteristics are indicative not only of the disease that the remedy is able to cure in relation to the physical symptoms, but of a much broader and more complex picture, which includes the modalities of appearance of the symptoms, their localization, the sensations, aggravations and worsening, typical manifestations, psychological and emotional aspects, behaviors, sphere of action, compatibility with other remedies and more.

The choice of the "right" homeopathic remedy must therefore be made by trying to overlap as much as possible the set of physical symptoms and individual characteristics (ie the results of the individualization process) with the characteristics of the remedy. Only in this way, among the many homeopathic remedies potentially able to cure the same pathology, the most suitable one will be identified for the person who is affected by it.
