VERBASCO TM Sarandrea - Food Supplement

Biennial herbaceous plant up to 100-120 cm tall. of variable appearance and in any case gray-green, almost silvery, due to the presence of a thick woolly down the stems are erect, rigid, sometimes branchy.
The basal, rosette-shaped leaves are large (about 40 cm.) Obovate, and very tomentose.
The flowers form a long apical spike, are yellow with a diameter of 2 cm, the corolla is gamopetala.

Curiosity

The name of the genus is the one used by Pliny, perhaps it derives from the Latin “barbascum” which means “bearded”, with reference to the widespread hairiness of these plants. The particularly soft and resistant leaves are used by many shepherds to replace toilet paper.

Active principles

Flavonoids (hesperidin, rutin, verbascoside, apigenin, luteolin), Iridoide (aucuboside, catalposide, harpagide, harpagoside), essential oils, saponins, sterols, carotenoids, xanthophylls, phenolic acids, mucilages.

Internal use (hydroalcoholic solution)

Mullein has expectorant, bronchial fluidifying, bechiche, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic properties.
Indications: Respiratory diseases, coughs, pharyngitis and laryngitis, tracheitis, various bronchitis, urticaria.
Dosage: 40 drops in a little water three times a day between meals.

Note

The oil obtained from the flowers or these same "wrinkled" are a good preparation against warts.
