Nicknamed the "superfood of the Andes", Maca is popular with the indigenous population of the Peruvian Andes. Grown in spring, Maca is a small root vegetable that is grown at altitudes above 3500 meters. Traditionally integrated into the nutrition of the natives, Maca root has evolved into a modern "superfood". Maca has a rich malty flavor that combines well with cocoa, another "superfood". A complete protein, Maca provides 19 amino acids, 4 different alkaloids, 20 different fatty acids, an abundance of calcium and an assortment of vitamins including C, E, B1 (thiamin) and B2 (riboflavin). Rich in macro and micronutrients, it has a remarkable nutritional value, which for the Peruvian populations is comparable to that of our cereals. Dried Maca Root contains about 60-70% carbohydrates, 10-14% protein, 8.5% fiber and 2.2% fat. Raw maca roots are grown with a 5-year rotation method without the use of pesticides. Our maca is a blend of 4 different roots: 25% red, 25% yellow, 25% purple and 25% black which offer a unique nutritional profile. Hand-selected for the best quality, Maca root is cleaned in plain water. Once dried, the Maca root is ground into a fine powder and packaged. In Italy, the dried root of Lepidium is used above all for its adaptogenic, immunostimulating and aphrodisiac properties. Traditionally used for its ability to boost sexual energies. This feature is supported by Peruvian folk medicine and some studies. Some research, carried out on adult patients, found that administering maca for four months induced a subjective improvement in sexual desire (compared to placebo), without significantly affecting blood levels of testosterone or estradiol. These effects would be attributable to some alkaloids and phytosterols or, more simply, to the set of macro and micronutrients present in the root. The latter would also be responsible for its ergogenic (useful for athletes) and restorative effect.

How to use
